The Moroccan Memoirs Expedition: 12-Day Grand Discovery Route

The Definitive Moroccan Odyssey: A Twelve-Day Immersive Journey through the Imperial North, the Blue Rif Mountains, and the Deep Saharan South

The 12-Day Tour from Casablanca is our most comprehensive and storied expedition. Designed as a “Slow Travel” masterpiece, this itinerary allows you to fully inhabit the Moroccan experience rather than simply passing through it. It connects the cosmopolitan energy of Casablanca with the coastal charm of Essaouira, the indigo serenity of Chefchaouen, and the ancient spiritual pulse of Fes and Marrakech.

Spanning twelve days, this journey is crafted for travelers who want to “hunt for treasures” in every sense—from artisanal Berber carpets and hand-carved lanterns to the cultural memories that only a deep-dive exploration can provide. You will traverse the entire geographic spectrum of the Kingdom, witnessing the transition from Atlantic breezes to the high-altitude cedar forests of the Atlas and the silent, golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. This is the ultimate Moroccan memoir, offering a perfectly balanced flow of imperial history, nomadic tradition, and seaside relaxation.

It eliminates the “long-haul fatigue” by providing multi-night stays in Chefchaouen, Fes, and Marrakech, allowing you to truly unpack, connect with the local rhythm, and explore beyond the main tourist sites.
  • The Complete Geographic Circle. This is the only expedition that covers the entire spectrum of Morocco’s landscapes. You don’t have to choose between the Blue City of the North, the Golden Sahara of the South, the High Atlas peaks, or the Atlantic Coast—this tour connects them all in one logical, seamless loop.
  • Bespoke Mountain & Coastal Contrast. The 12-day route offers a unique balance between the rugged interior and the breezy coast. You’ll transition from trekking through the Berber villages of the High Atlas (Imlil) to wandering the 18th-century seaside ramparts of Essaouira.
  • Deep Cultural Immersion. With two full days in the spiritual capital of Fes and an extensive stay in Marrakech, you have the time to participate in artisanal workshops, visit hidden palaces, and experience the “living theater” of the medinas at different times of the day.
  • A Journey of UNESCO Treasures. This itinerary hits nearly every major UNESCO World Heritage site in the country, including the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the medieval city of Fes, the red-earth ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, and the coastal medina of Essaouira.

12-Day Tour from Casablanca - Frequently Asked Questions

The 12-day tour is our most complete and relaxed itinerary. While shorter tours must skip certain regions, this “Grand Loop” includes the Atlantic Coast (Essaouira) and the “Blue City” (Chefchaouen). It is designed for those who want to experience the soul of Morocco without the exhaustion of back-to-back long driving days.

Yes. While the standard 12-day route returns to Casablanca for your departure, we can easily customize the final day to drop you off in Marrakech or Fes if that better suits your flight plans.

Not at all. We have carefully balanced this itinerary to include “multi-night stays” in Fes, Merzouga, and Marrakech. This means you’ll have full days where the vehicle is only used for short local excursions, giving you plenty of time to explore on foot or relax at your Riad.

This tour is a curated collection of Morocco’s wonders:

  • The Imperial Cities. Hassan II Mosque (Casablanca), Hassan Tower (Rabat), the medieval tanneries (Fes), and Bahia Palace (Marrakech).

  • The North. The blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen and the Roman ruins of Volubilis.

  • The Deep South. The golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, the “Monkey Fingers” rocks in Dades, and the movie sets of Ouarzazate.

  • UNESCO Heritage. The ancient Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou.

  • The Atlantic Coast. The white-and-blue seaside ramparts of Essaouira.

Yes. For the complex Medinas of Fes and Marrakech, we provide official, university-educated local guides. They ensure you see the hidden gems that tourists often miss and provide deep historical context for the palaces and monuments.

On a 12-day tour, you don’t just “pass through” the desert. You have a full day in the Sahara to visit nomadic families, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia village, explore the mines, and enjoy a traditional “Berber Pizza” lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll take your sunset camel trek to the camp.

Since we travel from the cooler Rif Mountains to the hot Sahara and the breezy Atlantic coast, we recommend:

  • Versatile Layers. Cotton clothing for the day and a warm jacket for desert nights.

  • Modesty. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees for city visits.

  • Footwear. Comfortable walking shoes for the Medinas and sandals for the beach and desert.

  • Swimwear. Many of our selected Riads and hotels in Marrakech and Essaouira have beautiful pools.

Absolutely. Over 12 days, you will experience a vast range of Moroccan cuisine. Whether you are vegan, gluten-free, or have specific allergies, we coordinate with every Riad and restaurant along the route to ensure your meals are safe and delicious.

As this is a private tour in a large 4×4 or minivan, there is plenty of room for luggage. However, for the night in the Sahara camp, we recommend packing a small “overnight bag” so you don’t have to transport your large suitcases into the sand dunes via camel or 4×4.
