The Journey South. Your 4-day Saharan odyssey begins with a morning pick-up from your Riad or Hotel in Fes. While the drive to Merzouga is one of the more significant segments of the trip (approximately 7 hours), the “change of landscapes” is so dramatic that the journey feels like a destination in itself.
The Moroccan Switzerland. Our first stop is Ifrane, a city that feels like a piece of the Alps transported to Africa. With its sloped-roof chalets, pristine parks, and alpine climate, it has earned the nickname “The Switzerland of Morocco.” It offers a startling and beautiful contrast to the medieval streets of Fes.
The Ancient Cedars of Azrou. We continue into the heart of the Middle Atlas to the Cedar Forest of Azrou. Here, you will stand beneath magnificent Atlas cedars and meet the local Barbary Macaques. These friendly wild monkeys are a highlight for many travelers, and they love interacting with visitors as you pass through their mountain home.
The Ziz Valley Transition. Following a lunch stop in the “Apple Capital” of Midelt, we traverse the spectacular Ziz Gorges. As we approach Er-Rashidia, watch as the environment begins to shift; the lush greenery of the Ziz River valley—one of Africa’s largest palm oases—slowly gives way to the vast, golden horizons of the desert.
Arrival at the Dunes. We reach Merzouga by late afternoon. You will check into your hotel situated right at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, giving you your first breathtaking look at the massive walls of sand that you will explore further tomorrow.
Thrilling 4×4 Exploration. After breakfast at the hotel, we begin our deep dive into the desert landscape. We’ll meet our expert 4×4 driver and set off across the rolling dunes to explore the hidden gems of the Sahara.
A Cup of Tea with Nomads. We travel deep into the “Black Desert” to visit a Nomadic family living in traditional tents. This is a rare opportunity to share a cup of tea and gain firsthand insight into how they have managed to thrive in this beautiful yet demanding environment for generations.
The Rhythms of Khamlia. Our journey continues to the village of Khamlia, home to descendants of sub-Saharan Africa. You will be captivated by a live performance of Gnawa music—a spiritual and rhythmic tradition that is the heartbeat of the Saharan soul.
Sunset Camel Trek. In the late afternoon, we return to the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will trade your vehicle for a camel caravan, trekking into the heart of the golden sands as the sun begins its descent. The play of light and shadow across the peaks is one of the most “picturesque” moments of the entire journey.
Luxury Under the Saharan Sky. Your final destination is our Exclusive Desert Camp. Here, you will find total comfort with high-end beds and private en-suite showers and toilets.
A Night of Berber Magic. After a gourmet Moroccan dinner, we gather around the campfire. You will experience an authentic Berber drum session, listening to the songs of the desert people echoing through the dunes. Under a clear, cloudless sky, the stargazing here is simply unparalleled—a brilliant canopy of stars that you will remember forever.
A Spiritual Sunrise. We begin the day by rising with the first beams of dawn. Watching the sun ascend over the silent, golden peaks of the Erg Chebbi dunes is a transformative experience—one that will undoubtedly become one of your strongest and most cherished memories of Morocco.
The Fossil Heritage of Rissani. After a fresh camp breakfast, we return to the village of Merzouga and begin our journey toward the Dades Valley. Our first stop is Rissani, where we visit the famous “Fossil Factory.” Here, you will discover the incredible prehistoric treasures and ancient remains for which this Saharan region is globally renowned.
Tinghir & The Emerald Oasis. We continue our drive for approximately three hours until we reach the picturesque town of Tinghir. We will pause at a dramatic viewpoint to capture a panoramic photograph of the massive palm oasis—a lush green river of life winding through the arid mountain landscape.
The Majestic Todra Gorges. Next, we reach the world-famous Todra Gorges, a massive canyon where limestone cliffs rise 300 meters high. You will have time to walk along the riverbed, feeling the sheer scale of the rock walls, before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant situated deep within the canyon.
Evening in the Dades Valley. We conclude the day’s journey by traveling through the “incredible” scenery of the Dades Valley. You will spend the night in a boutique hotel surrounded by the valley’s unique “monkey finger” rock formations and traditional fortified villages.
The Valley of Roses & Skoura Oasis
Our final day begins with a brief morning drive through the Dades Gorges before we head toward Kalaat M’Gouna. This region is the heart of the “Rose Valley,” famous for its fragrant Damask roses and the annual festival held in their honor. We continue to the Skoura Oasis, a lush, emerald landscape of date palms fed by mountain rivers and dotted with ancient kasbahs.
Ouarzazate: The Hollywood of Morocco
A short drive brings us to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s cinematic capital. We explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt, a maze of earthen architecture, and visit the Cinema Museum and Atlas Film Studios. You will see firsthand why this city has served as the backdrop for some of the world’s most famous historical epics.
Ait Ben Haddou: A UNESCO Masterpiece
We continue to the breathtaking Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a crown jewel of Moroccan earthen architecture. Recognized globally as a primary filming location for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia, this fortified village offers a step back into ancient history.
The High Atlas & Tizi n’Tichka Pass
Our final leg takes us across the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Reaching an altitude of 2,260 meters, this is one of the most scenic roads in Morocco. We will pause for multiple photo opportunities to capture the panoramic views of green river valleys, traditional adobe villages, and the rugged peaks of the Atlas.
Arrival in the Red City
We arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon. After a comfortable transfer to your Riad or hotel, you will have the evening free to relax or begin your exploration of the vibrant energy of the Jemaa el-Fnaa square.

The 4-day tour offers a much more relaxed pace. While the 3-day tour involves a lot of driving, the 4-day version allows for a “full desert day” (Day 2) where you can visit nomadic families and explore the dunes, or an extra night in the Dades Valley to enjoy a hike in the Gorges. It is the best choice if you want to experience the Sahara without feeling rushed.
This is a one-way tour. We pick you up at your accommodation in Fes and drop you off directly at your Riad or Hotel in Marrakech at the end of the fourth day. We can also end the tour in Casablanca upon request.
Day 1: 7–8 hours (Fes to Merzouga with many stops).
Day 2: Minimal driving (mostly 4×4 exploration around the dunes).
Day 3: 4–5 hours (Merzouga to Dades Valley).
Day 4: 5–6 hours (Dades to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou).
We ensure frequent stops for photos, coffee, and stretching your legs.
This 4-day itinerary covers the most famous sites in Southern Morocco:
The Middle Atlas. Ifrane (Moroccan Switzerland) and the Cedar Forest of Azrou.
The Sahara Region. The dunes of Erg Chebbi, the village of Khamlia (Gnawa music), and Rissani’s traditional souks.
The Gorges. Both the Todra Gorge (massive limestone cliffs) and the Dades Valley.
UNESCO Sites. The ancient Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate.
The High Atlas. The famous Tizi n’Tichka pass, reaching 2,260 meters in altitude.
Yes! Because this is a 4-day tour, we have the luxury of time. You can take a guided walk through the Todra Gorge or a short hike in the Dades Valley to see the “Monkey Fingers” rock formations.
You don’t need to worry about your luggage. Your main suitcases stay securely locked in the 4×4 vehicle. You only take a small backpack with your overnight essentials to the desert camp. On Day 3, the vehicle meets you at the edge of the desert with all your belongings.
Yes, on Day 2 of this tour, we take a 4×4 excursion into the “Black Desert” to visit Nomadic families living in traditional tents. You will learn about their way of life and share a glass of mint tea with them.
If you book the Luxury Camp option, your tent will have a private en-suite bathroom with a hot shower and flush toilet. If you choose the Standard Camp, bathroom facilities are shared.
We include breakfast and dinner for all three nights of the tour. Lunches and drinks are not included, which gives you the freedom to try different local cafes and restaurants recommended by your driver.
Absolutely. The 4-day pace is actually ideal for families. It allows children more time to play in the sand dunes, visit the monkeys in the forest, and enjoy the hotel pools without long, exhausting stretches of driving.
