The Journey South
Your private 3-day odyssey begins with an early morning pick-up from your Riad or Hotel in Fes. Today’s journey toward the Merzouga Desert is one of the most scenic in the Kingdom. While it is a significant drive of approximately seven hours, the dramatic and “abrupt variations” in the landscape—from alpine forests to arid desert—make every moment captivating.
The Moroccan Switzerland
Our first stop is Ifrane, a charming town known for its European-style architecture, pristine parks, and alpine climate. With its sloped-roof chalets and snowy winters, it has rightfully earned the nickname “The Switzerland of Morocco.”
The Ancient Cedars of Azrou
We continue into the heart of the Middle Atlas to the Cedar Forest of Azrou. Here, you will stand beneath majestic, centuries-old trees and meet the local Barbary Macaques. These wild monkeys are famously hospitable and enjoy interacting with visitors, especially when offered a few treats.
The Ziz Valley Transition
After a lunch stop in the mountain town of Midelt, we traverse the spectacular Ziz Gorges. As we approach Er-Rashidia, you will witness a breathtaking environmental shift as the lush greenery of the Ziz River valley gives way to the vast, golden horizons of the Sahara.
A Night Under the Saharan Stars
Upon arriving in Merzouga, you will embark on a camel trek across the swelling dunes (or opt for a 4×4 transfer) to reach our exclusive desert camp. Your luxury tent features comfortable beds and private showers and toilets. The evening concludes with a traditional Moroccan dinner and a rhythmic Berber drum session around the campfire under a brilliant canopy of stars.
A Spiritual Sunrise
We begin the day as “morning people,” rising with the first touch of light to witness the sunrise over the silent, marvelous dunes of Erg Chebbi. This golden moment, as the Sahara wakes up, is guaranteed to be one of the most powerful and enduring images of your Moroccan journey.
The Fossil Heritage of Rissani
After a fresh camp breakfast, we depart the desert and travel toward the historic town of Rissani. We visit a specialized fossil workshop to explore the prehistoric treasures found in abundance across this region, offering a fascinating look at the Sahara’s ancient geological history.
Tinghir & The Great Palm Oasis
Our journey continues toward Tinghir, where we stop for a panoramic photograph overlooking one of Morocco’s most beautiful palm oases. The lush green corridor provides a stunning contrast against the rugged mountain backdrop.
The Majestic Todra Gorges
We arrive at the world-renowned Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone walls rise 300 meters from the canyon floor. You will have time to walk along the riverbed and hike through the narrowest part of the gorge before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant situated right within the canyon.
Evening in the Dades Valley
In the afternoon, we proceed through the “fantastic” landscapes of the Dades Valley. You will spend the night in a boutique hotel, surrounded by the unique geology and traditional adobe villages that make this valley one of the most scenic in the Atlas Mountains.
The Valley of Roses & Skoura Oasis
Our final day begins with a scenic drive through the Dades Gorges before heading toward Kalaat M’Gouna, the heart of the “Valley of Roses,” famous for its annual rose festival. We then continue to the Skoura Oasis, a lush, emerald landscape where vast palm groves are fed by mountain streams and ancient irrigation systems.
Ouarzazate: The Hollywood of Africa
A short drive brings us to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s cinematic capital. We will explore the historic Kasbah Taourirt, a maze of earthen rooms and towers, and visit the Cinema Museum and the Atlas Film Studios. Here, you will see the legendary sets where many of the world’s most famous historical epics were filmed.
Ait Ben Haddou: A UNESCO Masterpiece
We continue to the breathtaking Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an iconic filming location for Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia. You will have time to walk through the fortified streets of this ancient ksar, marveling at its perfectly preserved clay architecture.
The High Atlas & Tizi n’Tichka Pass
Our journey to Marrakech takes us over the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Reaching an elevation of 2,260 meters, this is one of the most beautiful roads in Morocco, offering panoramic views of deep green valleys, traditional adobe villages, and the atmospheric ruins of ancient kasbahs.
Arrival in Marrakech
We arrive in the vibrant “Red City” in the late afternoon. After checking into your hotel or Riad, you will have free time to relax or head straight to the Jemaa el-Fnaa square to witness the city’s legendary evening energy.
The most efficient and scenic way to traverse the Kingdom.

Yes, this tour covers a lot of ground (approx. 1,000 km). Day 1 (Fes to Merzouga) is about 7–8 hours of driving, and Day 3 (Dades to Marrakech) is about 6–7 hours. However, we break the journey into manageable segments with stops for coffee, lunch, and sightseeing at landmarks like the Cedar Forest and Ait Ben Haddou.
